ECMA 2006 Nominees Announced
January 11, 2006
The East Coast Music Awards nominees were announced today
and Newfoundlanders have a few reasons to be happy.
A quick scan reveals the following 'local' content:
1. The Trews (to whom we have a tenuous claim) -- 5 nominations.
2. The Novaks -- the Rising Star award.
3. Cantus Vocum -- Gospel recording.
4. Colleen Power -- Best Folk Recording and Female Artist of the Year.
5. Duane Andrews -- Best Male and Instrumental Recording
6. Great Big Sea -- Roots/Traditional Recording
Some of the talent represented deserves recognition,
some just isn't indicative of the best the province has to offer.
In any case, I hope Newfoundlanders walk away from the awards in Charlottetown
weighed down with statues. It's all about the statues -- I'm shallow that way.

I don't need...
last names to know who Debbie and Toni-Marie are and I can find my way from Happy Adventure to Misery Point in the fog. My morning comes a half hour earlier and any day without 'RDF' is good. I've seen a mummer, tasted toutons and the image conjured by the word Dildo might be different for me than you because I'm a product of this place.
