Johnny Ruth: Downtown
January 25, 2006
In terms of socializing and hanging out
I've always been a 'downtown person' but lately I've noticed
that in addition to time, I am spending more and more money there...
and the reason is no big mystery.
Not only do the stores in
downtown St. John's have more interesting merchandise
than anything in the malls or the sub-urban power-shopping districts,
they have much, much better service.
I'm tired of being served by dead-eyed clerks in chain stores that know
next-to-nothing about the wares they are selling, and who have little desire or motivation
to actually leave the customer with a sense of satisfaction.
I generally don't feel that way when I shop on Water Street.
Last time I was in St. John's , I stopped at Johnny Ruth
and the service was great -- genuinely friendly and knowledgeable.
It made for a completely different shopping experience
and I will spend money there again.
It's great to see that some stores have got it figured out --
good merchandise and good service
make for good customers.

I ate the new Taste of Thai restaurant last weekend. It is another great addition to the DT.
I recommend a trip immediately - Cool atmosphere and a delicious new food experience. - At Thursday, January 26, 2006 11:23:00 AM, Robert said...

I've been looking forward to that place.
I will check it out, for sure.

I don't need...
last names to know who Debbie and Toni-Marie are and I can find my way from Happy Adventure to Misery Point in the fog. My morning comes a half hour earlier and any day without 'RDF' is good. I've seen a mummer, tasted toutons and the image conjured by the word Dildo might be different for me than you because I'm a product of this place.
